FDI in MENA: The Role of Capital Markets and Financial Infrastructure
John Burbank, Sarah Al Suhaimi, Miguel Azevedo, Rayan Fayez, Rishi Kapoor, Frank Kane
Driven by Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030, the market is accelerating global integration through rapid deregulation, the shift to T+2 settlement, and mandatory IFRS adoption to attract foreign capital. With Qualified Foreign Investor registrations doubling to over 120 and MSCI inclusion anticipated to trigger $25 billion in passive inflows, foreign ownership is projected to rise from 1% to double-digit levels within a few years. While challenges remain in judicial reform pace, industry leaders like InvestCorp and the Saudi government expect liquidity to quadruple and corporate governance standards to converge with global benchmarks as the region moves toward a potential unified GCC exchange.
