This panel discussion analyzes the structural misalignment between the US healthcare system's acute-care origins and the modern demographic reality of an aging population living longer with chronic conditions. While bipartisan legislation and private sector innovations in Medicare Advantage are successfully shifting incentives toward value-based care and addressing social determinants, implementation is severely hindered by astronomical administrative burdens and fragmented health IT interoperability. Participants conclude that future progress requires integrating social services into medical models and leveraging private sector experimentation to streamline the transition away from volume-based reimbursement.
