Aaron Smith-Levin: Scientology | Lex Fridman Podcast #361

Aaron Smith-Levin, Lex Fridman

Former Sea Org member Aaron Smith details the operational structure of Scientology, tracing its origins from L. Ron Hubbard's *Dianetics* to the current hierarchical control exercised by David Miscavige over the inner leadership. The presentation outlines specific mechanisms of retention and dissent suppression, including the billion-year contracts, the practice of disconnection, and the use of confidential "Operating Thetan" narratives. With global active membership estimated to have dropped to approximately 35,000, Smith concludes that the organization faces declining influence despite its continued reliance on celebrity endorsements and strict information management.
