Seattle-based StarCloud, founded by Philip Johnston and Ezra Fieldin, is advancing its $2 billion valuation by transitioning from its successful StarCloud 1 mission to the assembly of StarCloud 2, a satellite designed to deliver space-based compute power at a fraction of traditional aerospace costs. The company is engineering a proprietary constellation of 88,000 satellites capable of deploying 20 gigawatts of processing capacity by leveraging SpaceX Starship launches and innovative thermal management systems to eliminate terrestrial infrastructure dependencies. With current workloads running government inference tasks and AI models like NanoGPT in orbit, StarCloud aims to scale production to 100 units weekly by 2028 while leveraging the physical and legal security of orbital assets for critical defense applications.
