A Conversation with US House Majority Whip James E. Clyburn & Former US Attorney General Eric Holder
Congressman James Clyburn outlined a strategic plan to address pandemic recovery and systemic societal fractures if Democrats secure a unified government in January 2021, emphasizing the need to repair historical fault lines in healthcare, housing, and education. He criticized the current electoral and voting systems as vulnerable to suppression and non-linear societal swings, advocating for eliminating the filibuster for civil rights, restoring the Voting Rights Act, and granting statehood to Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico. Drawing on the resilience of figures like John Lewis, Clyburn urged activists to prioritize organized turnout in the 2020 election while framing "Trumpism" as a recurring national challenge requiring constant institutional repair to ensure a stable future for the next generation.
